PHMB antibacterial principle

12-05-2021

PHMB is a new kind of multi-purpose bactericidal and bacteriostatic polymer. With the purity 98% min. CAS Number is 32289-58-0.

Antibacterial principle

Polyhexamethylene biguanide hydrochloride PHMB is a cell membrane active antibacterial agent. Its inhibitory effect on bacterial activity is higher than that on fungi. Its antibacterial mechanism is roughly as follows:

PHMB is a polycationic compound, which will adsorb on the surface of negatively charged microorganisms to prevent them from splitting and reproducing;

PHMB adsorbed on the surface of microorganisms acts on the phospholipid bilayer in the cytoplasm through transmembrane transport, and binds to the negatively charged phosphate groups, thereby changing the selective permeability of the cell membrane, destroying cell metabolism, and killing microorganisms.

Instructions

Polyhexamethylene biguanide hydrochloride is often used in formulas with other water treatment agents. The specific formula, usage and dosage should be determined according to the on-site water quality and equipment conditions, depending on the experimental results. When used as a disinfectant alone, the recommended concentration is 100~500mg/L. When used in textile printing and dyeing, animal husbandry, aquaculture and other industries, the usage and dosage should be determined according to the process and test.

PHMB Powder

1. Application of PHMG powder in antibacterial plastic products

Bacteria, viruses and other pathogenic microorganisms are one of the main killers of human health. They can easily breed on the surface of polymer materials such as plastics and fibers, posing a great threat to the health of people who use and come into contact with these materials. Therefore, adding an antibacterial agent to the polymer material can kill or inhibit the reproduction of bacteria and viruses on the material within a certain period of time, thereby keeping the material clean and hygienic. Guanidine polymers are mainly used as antibacterial agents because they contain guanidine functional groups.

2. Application of PHMG powder in non-woven fabrics

The guanidine hydrochloride and hexamethylenediamine melt polycondensation to prepare polyhexamethyleneguanidine hydrochloride with higher molecular weight and degree of polymerization, and apply it to the antibacterial finishing processing of pure cotton knitted fabrics, so that the fabric has good antibacterial properties. It is effective and has a certain degree of durability. The synthesis, structure and molecular weight of polyhexamethyleneguanidine hydrochloride show that the prepared polyhexamethyleneguanidine hydrochloride can meet the requirements of textile antibacterial finishing; use it as textile antibacterial finishing Finishing of pure cotton knitted fabrics; Polyhexamethyleneguanidine hydrochloride has little effect on the whiteness of finished bleached fabrics and the shade of finished dyed fabrics. It has certain washing resistance and chlorine bleaching resistance. It reflects the antibacterial finishing fabrics. The antibacterial activity under natural conditions, the operation is easier and faster, and the safety is higher.
