【CAS Login Number】52-51-7
【EINECS Registration Number】200-143-0
【Molecular Weight】199.98
【Molecular Formula and Structural Formula】The molecular formula of Bronopol is C3H6BrNO4.
Properties
【Appearance】 Bronopol is white to pale yellow, or yellowish-brown crystalline powder at room temperature, odorless and tasteless.
【Density】1.2 g/cm³
【Melting Point】(℃) 130
【Vapor Pressure】kPa(℃) 1.68×10 (25oC)
【Solubility Properties】Bronopol (BNP) is insoluble in petroleum ether, slightly soluble in chloroform and benzene, and soluble in water, ethanol, and ethyl acetate. At 22℃, its solubility in water is 250g/L.
【Stability】Boronopol will slowly decompose in alkaline aqueous solutions.
【Chemical Reactions】The Bronopol molecule contains two hydroxyl groups, which should exhibit the general properties of hydroxyl groups, such as reacting with acids to form esters and other reactions. The bromine substituent will slowly decompose in an alkaline aqueous solution and corrode certain metals, such as aluminum.
【Prohibited Combinations】Strong oxidants, strong bases, strong acids.
【Aggregate Hazard】 No aggregate hazard.
Application:
Bronopol is mainly used as preservative and bactericide. As bactericide, the BNP can effectively prevent various plant pathogenic bacteria. When used for treating cotton seeds, it can prevent cotton black arm disease caused by cotton spot fungus and bacterial blight, without causing harm to cotton. It can also be used for rice blight disease. The recommended concentration is 800 - 1000 mg/L. It is also used in industrial circulating water, paper pulp, coatings, plastics, cosmetics, wood, cooling water circulation systems, as well as for sterilization, mold prevention, preservation, and algae elimination in industrial applications.
